Students in Michael Kiefer’s science classes at participated in their annual Beach Clean Up held on March 26. The students cleaned up portions of Stone Harbor’s beaches.
Cape May Technical
GED testing at the Cape May County Technical School District is April 14 and 15 from 4 to 9 p.m. Mandatory pre-registration and orientation is April 13, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the GED test area, room 145 of the Tozour Building, 188 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House.
Those interested in the GED test must bring a money order or cash for $50 (no personal checks) and one form of government-issued photo ID.
Applicants who are 16 must present a photo ID, original birth certificate and Social Security card; also, 16 and 17 year olds must present their certificate of consent to participate at the time of registration. Contact the GED office for a form.

Arrangements can be made for all of the GED testing information contained in this notice to be better profiled to individuals with limited English language skills or with impaired sensory, manual or speaking skills to enable them to benefit as qualified for opportunities addressed in this notice.
Special GED testing accommodations may be requested for individuals challenged with diagnosed physical, emotional or educational special needs.
Dennis Township
Recently students in grades 3-5 were invited to participate in the Hobby Fair. Each student showcased his or her hobby or interest by making a display in our cafeteria. Parents and the community were invited to attend this event.
In other Dennis news, The Action Team for Partnerships (ATP) sponsored an activity that was opened up to all fourth graders who wanted to participate in a fun night of writing action stories, computer races, poetry writing,
graphic story writing, sharing, and reading aloud. Fourth grade teacher, Jen Fetsick, and parent, Christine Selover organized the night.
Glenwood Avenue
March 27, Cub Scout Pack 184 from Glenwood Avenue School had its first Pinewood Derby at American Legion Post 184, Wildwood, and the pack’s sponsoring organization. Eighteen boys from second and third grade at Glenwood Avenue School entered the races with cars they built, and the races were exciting until the end. Race winners were: 1st Place, Robert Peculski; 2nd Place, Timothy Walker; 3rd Place, Alex Bautista; Best in Show/Most Original Design, Victor Aguilar.
Ocean City
“Water’s Veil,” a poem written by Shannon Farrell, a student at the Ocean City Intermediate School, was selected as the winning poem of the second Barrier Island Writers Poetry Contest. Olivia Pawling, also a student at Ocean City Intermediate School, took second place in the contest.
Their teacher, Donna Valente, encouraged the girls to submit their haikus after teaching them this form of Japanese poetry. On March 6, the students were recognized for their winning poems at the Avalon Free Public Library. Mr. Norman Gluckman, Director of the Avalon Free Public Library, presented the students with gift certificates from the library.
This is the second year that the Barrier Island Writers have held the poetry contest. It was open to all Middle School students who live or attend school in Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon or Stone Harbor.
The Barrier Island Writers is a group of local writers who meet the first and third Saturdays of each month at the Avalon Free Public Library from 10:00 until 12:00pm.
Under the tutelage of Dr. Sue Jacobson, the group has published one book and currently has completed a second book, which will be available in late spring. Anyone with a desire to write is invited to attend the sessions. Everyone is invited to hear a sample of the writings of the group by visiting the Avalon Free Public Library’s website at avalonfreelibrary.org, going to “Virtual Exhibits” and selecting the Barrier Island Writers.
The winning poems, read by their authors, may also be heard on the website.
