School Days

Lower Township
Students at Maud Abrams School joined more than 2 million others across the country to cross social and racial boundaries recently, as part of the ninth annual Mix It Up at Lunch Day, and event designed to foster respect and understanding in schools.
Mix It Up encourages students to sit with someone new in the cafeteria for just one day. Many schools are planning similar barrier-busting activities throughout the day. Maud Abrams School uses this event to enhance their yearlong anti-bullying program.
This year the students from the 3rd and 4th grade have invited the students from the Charles W. Sandman 5th grade to join them for lunch. During past years Mix It Up events, students invited schools from other districts such as Crest Memorial School and West Cape May to join them for lunch.
Student organizers and teachers agree that Mix It Up at Lunch Day encourages students to cross group lines and meet new people. Mix It Up also fosters school spirit and unity, raises awareness about social boundaries and helps students meet different kinds of people.
