Gianna Cozzi brought her father, Steve Cozzi, from Fuze Restaurant, to school last week. Mrs. Kelley’s class learned all about taste buds. The second graders tasted different flavors (sour, bitter, sweet, & salty) then created a treat with a balance of all the flavors.

The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) is pleased to announce that Shelby Thornton of Wildwood is among the 25 graduating seniors in New Jersey who will be awarded a 2013+14 Student Leadership Scholarship.
Each Student Leadership Scholarship carries a $2,000 award for the recipient’s demonstrated leadership in school activities for participation in co-curricular activities other than athletics. Winners are selected from each of the three regions of our stare – north, central, south.
A senior at Wildwood High School with a 4.69 grade-point average, Thornton received presidential and distinguished academic awards for academics achievement and will be the valedictorian of her graduating class. She has been involved in numerous volunteer activities, including peer leadership and mediating, Hurricane Sandy Relief, and the Ocean City Breast Cancer Walk.
Under the direction of NJPSA Assistant Executive Director Chuck Stein, The Student Activities Committee of NJPSA reviewed all applications and selected the winners.
“This year’s applications were among the most impressive we have ever seen,” said Stein. “I am always impressed by the level of dedication and commitment these students demonstrate to their chosen activities. I have no doubt that these future leaders of society will realize tremendous success, and NJPSA is proud to recognize their contributions in this way.
A luncheon was held at NJPSA on May 20 to honor the scholarship recipients.
In other Wildwood news, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) recently sent Cape May County’s favorite summer star, the mascot duck of United Way’s Rubber Ducky Regatta to visit Wildwood’s preschool class to promote summer reading.
United Way is committed to improving education, income and health – the building blocks to a quality life for all in Cape May County. Through its early childhood development initiative Success By 6®, UWGPSNJ is working to ensure all children enter kindergarten ready to learn through programs aimed at building early literacy skills and coaching parents on more effective ways to read with their children. Success By 6 stresses the importance of consistent, shared reading time with young children and points to the summer months as a critical time for caregivers to continue preparing their children to enter the classroom ready to achieve in the fall. The 21st Annual United Way Rubber Duck Regatta, which supports UWGPSNJ’s education work in Cape May County through its Impact Fund, will take place Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood starting at 6:30 p.m.
