NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood “Veterans of Foreign Wars” Post 5941 announce Patriotic Essay “Winners for 2012.”
“Patriotic Essay” 1st place winners from VFW Post 5941 in North Wildwood are Rita Marino from Wildwood Catholic High School grade 9 to 12, and from Margaret Mace Elementary School grade 8, Alexa Davis.
The essay themes, decided yearly by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander, were distributed to local schools shortly after the start of the school year and were submitted to local VFW Posts by Nov. 9 to be judged. Winners at the post level were awarded a cash or bond prize.
Winners at the post level are then submitted with other post winners from other Cape May County Posts for further judging at the district, state and national level for additional awards with top national award for grade 9 to 12 being a $30,000 scholarship and grade 6 to 8 a $10,000 savings bond.
The post judging committee acknowledged the quality and diversity of this year’s essays, and the ” Love of country ” and ” Respect for today’s veterans ” conveyed in this year’s essay themes.
