By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Hard work and determination paid off for the athletic teams of Middle Township High School (MTHS) this fall season, as they celebrated many victories and milestones since the start of the school year.
“We are proud of our athletic teams at Middle Township High School. Once again this fall, we had tremendous success both on the field and off. It is a testament to our outstanding coaches and the tremendous dedication and passion of our athletes,” said Scott Lodgek, MTHS Athletic Director.
As proof of the school’s successful season, 17 athletes across five sports were named Cape Atlantic League First Team All Stars. Those students are: field hockey – Jenna Herlihy, Skylar Gentilini, Maggie Fossett, Abby Thompson; girls soccer – Bridget Ruskey, Nadine Coyle; boys soccer – Nik Anagnou, Zack Thomas, Christian Rafter, Trent Canter, Brendan Forrest; football – Matt Harris, Shawn Scott, David Bond, Johnny Zarfati; and tennis – Ruby Washington and Olivia Banach.
The field hockey team won the South Jersey Group 1 Championship for the first time in MTHS history and is the co-champion of the Cape Atlantic League’s National Conference. The team, led by Coach Janina Perna, also broke the school record for team wins with a final record of 17-2-2. Senior Jenna Herlihy is among the top three scorers in the state this year with 53 season goals, 146 career goals and 62 career assists.
The boys soccer team won the co-championship of the National Conference and finished the season 15-4. Coach John Maher got his 200th career win on October 18. The girls soccer team advanced to the semi-final of the state playoffs, finishing the season 10-6-2.
For the first time in five years, the MTHS football team qualified for the state playoffs with a record of 5-4 before their final game, the Anchor Bowl, which they will host on Thanksgiving against Lower Cape May Regional High School. In addition, Coach Frank Riggitano celebrated 70 career wins in November.
