COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Board of Education will hold a hearing April 24 at 7 p.m. on its proposed $44.86-million budget for the 2014-15 school year. The hearing will be at the district administration office, 216 S. Main St. Amount to be collected from local taxes to support the proposed budget is $24.04 million.
The district tax rate is currently $.937 per $100 of assessed valuation, according to the 2013 Abstract of Ratables by the Cape May County Board of Taxation, and the district tax for 2013 is $25.2 million.
The pre-K-12 district projects 2,084 pupils, based on the Oct. 15, 2013 count of 2,069 pupils, according to an April 12 legal advertisement. The full-time student population is down compared to the 2012-13 census of 2,194 pupils. Additionally, the district has 438 special full-time pupils, and projected 437 in the next school year. There will be 51 shared-time special students, the same as in 2013.
The district expects to receive 226 pupils, up from 187 in 2013. It also projects 10 pupils in state facilities, the same as in 2013.
The local tax levy will be $24,040.144, up from $23,568,769 in 2013. Tuition from Stone Harbor, Avalon and Dennis Township combined is expected to be $2.4 million, up about $6,000 over last year.
Transportation aid will be level at $1.48 million, as in the prior year. In total, the district anticipates $13.49 million in state aid, slightly under $300,000 than in this year’s budget.
Instruction will be $10.58 million for regular programs. Special education instruction will be $3.48 million. Bilingual education instruction will total $105,804, up about $4,000 over the previous budget.
School sponsored athletics, instruction will be $562,707 compared to $552,615 the year prior. Extracurricular activities, instruction is $184,129, down from $218,629 in the 2013-14 year.
On its comparative per pupil cost, the district anticipates to pay $13,090 in 2014-15, as compared to $13,757 in 2013-14. That amount includes tuition expenditures, transportation, residential costs, and judgments against the district.
Employee benefits as a percentage of salaries are projected at 34.23 percent; up from 2013-14 when the amount was 33.49 percent.
