LOWER TOWNSHIP – Lower Cape May Regional High School will hold their prom at Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The theme, “Old Hollywood Glamor—the 1940s,” fits in with the venue, as Naval Air Station Wildwood is a WWII-era former Navy training facility.
Attendees will enter the prom through a “Walk of Fame” with 1940s cars as a backdrop. Students will have the opportunity to be photographed with the museum’s TBM Avenger, a NJ-built torpedo bomber used during WWII. The museum’s “Ready Room,” which normally functions as an orientation area, will turn into a 40s-era film screening room for the evening. The DJ will utilize the Bader Field air traffic control tower, a centerpiece of the museum. LCMR has also created a photo exhibit of the last 50 graduating classes, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school. Past and present will come together to add some 1940s glamor and make this year’s prom a memorable event for LCMR students. The community is invited to watch the students’ arrival and “Walk of Fame,” which begins at 7PM.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar No. 1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training facility. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
