Christopher Gonzalez, North Wildwood resident and 12th grade student at the Cape May County Technical High School participated in this summer’s Global Young Leaders Conference taking place in Vienna, Budapest and Prague.
Christopher was nominated starting in the 6th grade as a junior scholar for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (CYLC), a unique leadership development and educational organization. He has continued to participate with this organization in high school.
Gonzalez is service oriented as a junior volunteer firefighter. He is also a police explorer.
Gonzalez saved all of last summers’ wages and was financially supported with contributions from fire companies, Crest Savings Bank and a few teachers.
Gina Track, a former teacher, says, “I taught Chris World Cultures last year at CMC Technical High School and it was a pleasure. He’s an enthusiastic kid who’s full of life and has a true interest in the world around him.”
The theme of GYLC is The Leaders of Tomorrow Preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future.
GYLC culminates with the Global Summit, in which students apply what they’ve learned throughout the Conference as they debate, negotiate and build coalitions dealing with issues such as foreign aid, global warming, cooperative efforts in space, terrorism and human rights.
CYLC is a nonpartisan educational organization. Founded in 1985, the Council is committed to fostering and inspiring young people to achieve their full leadership potential.
Members of the U.S. Congress join this commitment by serving on the CYLC Honorary Congressional Board of Advisors. In addition, more than 50 embassies participate in the CYLC Honorary Board of Embassies.
