Ice Carving at Cape May Tech

By Herald Staff

Dylan Rutherford, a sophomore in the culinary arts program at Cape May Tech, uses a chisel to work on the ice sculpture of a butler, part of a presentation recently by Doug Gomersall who demonstrated the art of carving ice to create impressive ice sculptures.
The day’s program included a polar bear made from multiple blocks of ice, a star and the butler.
Gomersall is a member of the school’s culinary arts advisory council and has worked with students for the past nine years showing them the techniques involved to create these sculptures used as center pieces for weddings, galas and other special events.
The butler and the ice star will be displayed at Cape May Tech’s prom fashion show March 5.
