Gun Drawing Nets Suspension for Second Grader

By Joe Hart

BELLEPLAIN –– A second grader at Dennis Township Primary School was suspended Oct.19 for a picture he allegedly drew depicting a gun.
The drawing Kyle McDevitt made was of two smiling stick figures, one shooting a gun with “me” written above it and the other with another pupil’s name.
School officials became aware of the seven-year-old boy’s drawing when another student’s parents brought it to them concerned with the image.
McDevitt’s mother said she was told he was suspended because of the school’s zero-tolerance policy for guns. She has said she thinks the district overreacted and wants her son’s record expunged.
The school district has not commented on the incident.
