COURT HOUSE– Peer Leaders of Cape May County Technical High School and advisor Ms. Kiki Miller started early on this year’s National Lee Denim Day and Pink fundraiser.
Students coordinated a district-wide participation on Thursday, October 7th to raise funds to fight breast cancer, because the national campaign would occur on a non-school day for students.
In an organized campaign to raise funds, everyone from students to post-secondary teachers to custodians, cafeteria staff, administration, office personnel and high school teachers donated to the drive. Dressed in every shade of pink and denim, donors proudly donned a ‘pink ribbon’ pin or a donation sticker provided by the peer leader fundraisers. The superintendent even wore a tie patterned with pink ribbons in support of the event.
Peer leaders organize this event annually, but this year topped last year, raising $900.00 in one day to fight breast cancer.
Peer leaders in the high school work on a variety of community service projects, and serve as mentors to incoming freshmen annually. The relationships forged help create a school community and climate of collaboration.
Throughout the day, pictures are snapped of those dressed in denim, and a group of staff members pose annually, in the form of a pink ribbon, for Mrs. Downey’s Graphic Arts yearbook production as a reminder of this important campaign.
