CREST HAVEN — As a result of the storm impact to school operations in October, and the cancellation of the New Jersey Education Association’s (NJEA) annual convention in November, two schools of the Cape May County Technical School District have modified the school calendar to conduct classes.
All high school classes and the programs of the Post Secondary Institute will conduct class on November 8th and 9th, Thursday and Friday. School will be in session for a full day, during normal school hours.
There is no calendar change to other programs and schools of the district which will remain closed, as planned. No sessions will take place on Nov. 8 and 9 for Evening and Continuing Education; no sessions will take place for Adult High School, Senior Standing, ABE/GED or ESL classes. Those sessions will remain closed, as planned.
While the calendar originally released teachers and staff to the NJEA convention for opportunities to earn mandated professional development, the combination of school closings due to storm impact and the cancellation of the NJEA convention provided the opportunity to make-up the lost instructional days. This also allows the district to remain prepared for potential winter impact on future school days, which must conclude the mandated 180 days by the end of June. Superintendent Nancy M. Hudanich communicated personally with staff, and followed the announcement with automated phone calls to the families of all students within one day of the announcement of the NJEA cancellation.
