Cape May Tech Students Earn FFA Honors

COURT HOUSE – Cape May Tech FFA members competed in the 2011 NJ FFA Association Spring Career Development Events held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. The FFA is a national youth organization of over 500,000 members, all preparing for leadership and a future in the science, business and technology of agriculture.
Twelve Tech students competed against 200 students from 18 schools. The five-part competition includes a 50 question general knowledge exam, identification of 25 plants, plant disorders, tools and equipment, floral design, and landscape design. Also included are written and verbal customer assistance scenarios, assessment and solution practicum in GPS, land judging, pruning, measuring, press release writing, and equipment maintenance.
The results are as follows:
*Floriculture Career Development Event – 2nd Place Team – Jesse Kamm, Andra Ehrhardt, Jamie Bowden, Sacred DeFeo; 1st Place Individual – Jesse Kamm
*Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event – 4th Place Team – Sara Ehrhardt, Shavon Mangold, Anjeleen Coppa, Carlie Schweibinz; 2nd Place Individual – Anjeleen Coppa
*Environmental & Natural Resources Career Development Event – 2nd Place Team – Lindsey Steelman, Kane Daly, Maura McAleese, Meghan Daniels; 6th Place Individual – Lindsey Steelman.
