Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School (BMRCS) has spots available in PreK through 8th grade for the 2018-19 school year, and invites interested families to set up an appointment for a tour. BMRCS is a regional school in Cape May County located at 2221 Rt. 9 N. (mile marker 20), Cape May Court House.
New this year is the Before Care program that begins at 7 a.m. After Care also is available through 5:30 p.m. There is a nominal charge for each program. The school day starts at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Busing is available from certain districts; parents otherwise receive a $1,000 transportation voucher from the state.
BMRCS offers a comprehensive education for students starting at age 2. The Little Storm Preschool utilizes the Creative Curriculum, an award-winning preschool curriculum based on the latest research in child development and learning. Activities include art, music, movement, “reading” and “writing,” technology and social play. Parents may choose between two, three, four and five day programs for half or full days for PreK2, PreK2.5 and PreK3. PreK4 is a four or five day program, with a half or full day option.
Students in grades K-8 receive instruction in the core academic subjects, and in religion, music and art, library skills, technology and athletics. Distinctive programs include STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) and the Daily 5 Literacy program which allows students to select from five authentic reading and writing choices daily. BMRCS uses the ACE curriculum designed by the University of Notre Dame. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Extracurricular activities include PeeWee cheerleading, basketball, baseball, soccer, cross country, track, band, theatre and chorus. There also are seasonal clubs geared toward student interests from chess to Lego to computer coding. The soccer and cross country teams compete in the Atlantic-Cape League. The basketball teams compete in the Atlantic Cape League, the Cape Atlantic League and the South Shore Recreation League. Students in grades 5-8 may participate in Team Mercy, a student council that teaches kindness and thoughtfulness through school-based, student-run activities and community outreach.
There also is an active parent association, and many family events throughout the year.
