MAYS LANDING – Atlantic Cape Community College will celebrate Black History Month, with various fun, educational activities throughout February. All activities are free and open to the public.
The Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike, will feature an African-American Marketplace, sponsored by the Black Student Alliance, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays in February, beginning Feb. 10, in the hallway of J-Building. Vendors will sell African-American art, books, jewelry and other collectibles. Additionally, The African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey will present a pictorial display of the rich history of Atlantic City’s Northside, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Feb. 17, in Cafeteria B. African-American artist Glynnis Reed’s exhibit, “Quiet Power: A Retrospective – 1994-2014,” is also on display until Feb. 21 in Atlantic Cape’s newly renovated art gallery through Feb. 21.
The Worthington Atlantic City Campus, 1535 Bacharach Blvd., is showing the movie, “Number 42, the Jackie Robinson Story,” sponsored by Student Services, 12:30 p.m., Feb. 10, in the second floor student lounge. Essay readings on Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, sponsored by Student Activities, will take place 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., Feb. 24, in Room 297. Turiya S. Abdur-Raheem, author and adjunct faculty member, will read from her book, “Growing Up in the Other Atlantic City: Wash’s and the Northside,” 12:30 p.m., Feb. 25, in Room 204.
