Atlantic Cape Offers Substitute Teacher Certification

COURT HOUSE – Atlantic Cape Community College will offer a new certification program for those interested in becoming substitute teachers. This 10-hour program provides an overview of the role and expectations of the substitute teacher, as well as the application and certification process. Upon completion, students will receive one Continuing Education Unit.
Training includes:
• The role of the substitute teacher
• Growth and development by age level
• Appropriate teaching strategies
• Classroom management
• Practical ideas and resources
• Application process
• Professionalism in and out of the classroom
• Health and safety issues
The class will be offered multiples times, including three Thursdays, Aug. 7, 14 and 21 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Cape May County Campus; two Saturdays, Aug. 9 and 16, 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m., at the Mays Landing Campus; and two Saturdays, Sept. 13 and 20, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the Mays Landing Campus.

An unofficial college transcript indicating a minimum of 60 college credits earned is required the first day of class. The Mays Landing Campus is located at 5100 Black Horse Pike. The Cape May County Campus is located at 341 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House.
