COURT HOUSE – The New Jersey Green Association (NJGA), a nonprofit organization committed to the improvement of the environment within the state of New Jersey, announced that Atlantic Cape Community College has become its newest member.
Atlantic Cape Community College is a comprehensive two-year nonprofit publicly supported educational institution serving Atlantic and Cape May counties with three campuses: Atlantic City, Mays Landing and Cape May Court House. Atlantic Cape educates more than 7,000 credit students and over 8,500 in its continuing education programs, including green and sustainable living programs. Jean McAlister, assistant dean, continuing education operations, will representing Atlantic Cape.
“I am particularly pleased to be working with Jean and Atlantic Cape Community College. Over the past several years, Atlantic Cape has undertaken a leadership position with respect to initiating programs designed to deal with the challenges that face our environment,” said Allan Fliss, NJGA executive director. “We will look to them for guidance on many of the programs planned for the future.”
The Green Education Institute at Atlantic Cape Community College, with advisement from its Green Education Advisory Board, provides career and customized training for businesses in LEED Accreditation, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency programs, including Solar Installer Certification Program approved by NABCEP and BPI. The college also offers Environmental Protection Agency Training in response to a July 2010 requirement that all contractors get Lead-Safe certified by an EPA-approved EPA Training Provider. New Jersey Department of Community Affairs requires additional training for contractors in New Jersey-specific codes. Atlantic Cape offers classes to comply with these requirements through a partnership with New Jersey Council of Community Colleges. Contractors may earn certification in four areas: EPA’s Lead-Safe Renovation, Repair and Painting, Dust Sampling Technicians and OSHA Hazards.
