COURT HOUSE – Atlantic Cape Community College has been awarded a $48,625 grant from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to update computer and technology equipment for Atlantic Cape’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
Atlantic Cape’s ESL program is based in Atlantic Cape’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus, which made the program eligible for support from the CRDA’s Atlantic City Community Development grant program.
The grant will allow Atlantic Cape to equip two computer labs in the Atlantic City campus with a total of 42 new computers, which will support ESL learning software. The grant will also add iPads and vocabulary-enhancing software and apps to ESL classrooms.
“The generosity of the CRDA is greatly appreciated by the entire ESL Department as our students will benefit from this updated technology on a daily basis. We are really looking forward to starting the spring semester in the new labs and to be offering the use of iPads in the classroom,” Kristi Bergman, chairperson, Department of ESL and Modern Languages at Atlantic Cape, said.
Each year, Atlantic Cape’s ESL program teaches thousands of foreign-born Atlantic City residents and workers to be better speakers and readers of English. This has the impact of educating valuable employees for Atlantic City’s industries and strengthening Atlantic City’s families.
