CREST HAVEN — Michael C. Adams has been appointed principal of the Cape May County Technical School on Moore Road.
The selection took place Jan. 15 after a closed session of the district board of education.
Adams had been acting principal since the recent promotion of former principal, Robert Matthies to district superintendent. That promotion took effect Jan. 1 with the retirement of Superintendent William Desmond.
Adams has been the assistant principal and athletic director at the high school since August 1997. He taught language arts and was the athletic supervisor and head coach for girls track and field and cross country at Cumberland Regional High School from 1986 to 1997.
He also taught and coached at Aldine Junior High School in Houston, Texas and Kingsway Regional High School in Swedesboro.
A Lower Township resident, Adams earned a bachelor of arts degree in English education from Glassboro State College in 1979 and a master of arts in secondary school administration from Rowan University in 1994.
“I am honored to be chosen as the principal of Cape May Tech,” Adams said. “It has been rewarding to see the growth of our school and to have been a part of providing a unique and academically-challenging educational experience for our students. I feel blessed to work with thoughtful, dedicated teachers and staff.
“During the past 11 years, I have shared this experience with hundreds and hundreds of bright, enthusiastic students and am most proud to see them contributing to our Cape May County communities as teachers, medical professionals, business owners, and entrepreneurs. I face my new responsibilities with excitement, knowing that we will continue to improve, innovate, and provide a caring atmosphere for our kids,” he added.
