COURT HOUSE—After a yearlong process of soliciting and reviewing proposals, Atlantic Cape Community College chose a new vendor for its management information system.
The board awarded a contract to Datatel of Fairfax, Va., for core business software and implementation at the Board of Trustees’ Sept. 23 meeting at the Cape May County Campus here.
According to background information supplied to the board, the new system offers integrated student, financial, human resource and associated subsystems and will support effi-cient, effective information management and continuing business process improvement.
The project totals $2.86 million, with $2.2 million going to Datatel and the rest to its third-party partners for hardware and software.
Partners include: Sysix, $410,337; Micro-soft, $34,600; Entrinsik, $23,000; NOVU, $39,100; Inovis, $4,810; Perception Soft-ware/Image Now, $82,750; CollegeNet, $31,400; Acquire, $5,700; Madison Business Sys-tems/Source 4, $17,990; and ROC Easyspooler, $5,800.
Dean Douglas Hedges, information technology services, explained the college’s current MIS system, provided by Sunward, would be phased out in several years with an expected sunset date in 2011.
The new product will improve the Web portal students, staff and faculty use to access information and will provide enhanced reporting capabilities for research and other functions. He said it will offer better ease of use and functionality.
An 18 to 24 month implementation is planned, he said, with provisions to go to 30 months if needed. The college will save about $110,000 a year with the new system and he said the useful life of the investment is 25 years. Hedges said college staff needs to learn the new system while maintaining the other system.
Mora acknowledged Hedges’ leadership in chairing the MIS Review Committee and Hedges praised the committee for their hard work and time committed to the project.
Board Chairman Robert Boyer said the change is “a big investment in the future of the college.”
