ACCC Awards Nearly 1,000 Degrees; 171 to Cape Students

COURT HOUSE — Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) awarded 994 associate in arts, associate in applied science and associate in science degrees at the school’s 43rd commencement, Thursday, May 20. Of that total, 171 went to students from Cape May County.
Don Marrandino, president of the Eastern Division of Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., delivered the keynote address.
Dr. Peter L. Mora, ACCC president, presented honorary associate in arts degrees to Marrandino, and Laramie Potts, who served as is this year’s Beacons by the Sea Visiting Professor.
The Atlantic Cape Foundation Teaching Excellence Award was presented to Lisa Stein of Linwood, assistant professor of social science. The Adjunct Teaching Excellence Award was presented to Richard Russell of Ocean City, adjunct professor of English.
High honors student Mark Clinton Stansbury, of North Cape May, 20, who achieved a perfect 4.0 average, delivered the class farewell. Stansbury received an associate in science degree in general studies.
He began classes at Atlantic Cape in 2008 and became a member of the Campus Ambassadors Club and contributed to Rewrites literary magazine. Stansbury plans to continue his education at the University of Maryland, where he will study public relations.
“Some of you have had to put off school due to your job, your car payment, rent, heat, but you came back and finished,” Stansbury said. “All of the graduates here today did it, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
This list reflects all Atlantic Cape Community College students from this county who have fully completed the requirements for graduation during the 2009-2010 academic year.
