COURT HOUSE – Thirty-four students at Middle Township High School were inducted as members of the National Honor Society at a candlelight ceremony at the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township.
To qualify for that honor, students are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3, must meet minimum activity and community service requirements, and must submit an essay on the subject of character. To retain membership, they must perform 20 hours of community service per year.
The new group joins 40 who were chosen last year. Two of their activities this academic year will be assisting with the high school’s open house from six to 7:30pm on November 7, and at Elementary School #1’s field day in June.
The ceremony included an address by Principal, Frank Riggitano and welcoming remarks by Assistant Principal, Nancy Loteck. The mistress of ceremonies was student Alyse Lord, president of the Honor Society. Other speakers included Jay DeVico, vice president; Anika Buchanan, secretary; Yone’ Martin, treasurer; Natalia Donohue, historian and Jake Mericle, parliamentarian.
The advisor was High School Library Media Specialist, Kelly Lasher.
