Rutgers Cooperative Extension Plans Food Day Celebration

COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) will be celebrating the fifth annual Food Day Oct. 9, 2015, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and invite you to join us. A day of real food will take place on the RCE grounds at 355 Court House-So. Dennis Rd., Cape May Court House, and will including a farmer’s market, cooking demonstrations, food vendors, interactive workshops, beekeeping exhibits, gardening and horticulture lectures,  children’s poster contest and much more. 

Joining us for Food Day will be Andy’s Countryside Farm Market, Jalma’s Farm, Cape Island Home and Gardens, Crespella Gourmet Creperie, Cape May County Beach Plum Association, Cape May County Master Gardeners, Green Street Market, USDA Plant Materials Center, City2Shore Gourmet, Cape May Honey Farm, Anita’s Vegan Kitchen, Mama’s Homemade, Upper Township Green Team and more! Food Day at Rutgers will also feature horticulture lectures from Bruce Crawford, Director of Rutgers Gardens, “Growing Vegetables in the Home Garden” and Linda Conover, Cape May County Master Gardeners, will present “Healthy Plant = Healthy Food: Discover the Secrets of Soil”.

The fifth annual Food Day will see thousands of events in all 50 states aimed at promoting real food for all. In Cape May County, Food Day is devoted to educating the community about the need for healthier nutrition habits to reduce unnecessary diet related disease, supporting local agriculture, food vendors and restaurateurs, and businesses which actively promote healthy lifestyles.

Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) asks for non-perishable food donations on Food Day and through the month of October at the RCE location for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey for distribution to Cape May County residents.
