OCEAN CITY – Duffy Robbins, Professor of Youth Ministry at Eastern University returns this Sunday to Ocean City Tabernacle, Aug. 18, speaking at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services. Morning music is by Ron Matthews, who, with area musicians, also presents a full concert Sunday evening at 7:00—voice, trumpets, piano, and organ.
Dr. Robbins brings insights, inspiration and humor, as he travels the world speaking to teenagers and adults. The scope of Duffy’s ministry includes work in Europe, Australia and Asia as well as venues such as the Creation Festival, the Presidential Prayer Breakfast and Youth Specialties events. His books on youth ministry techniques and tools include The Ministry of Nurture, Youth Ministry Nuts and Bolts, Spontaneous Melodramas, This Way To Youth Ministry, Everyday Object Lessons, Enjoy the Silence (Zondervan), Speaking to Teenagers, and Building a Youth Ministry That Builds Disciples (Zondervan publications). He is also a contributor to Youthworker Journal, The Journal of Student Ministry, Youthwork (published in England) and Good News Magazine. Duffy and his wife have two grown daughters and two grandchildren.
Ron Matthews “and friends” are in concert at 7 pm and provide the music in the morning worship services. For the concert, they will be joined by a Festival Choir consisting of singers from the Sanctuary Choir, Church of the Savior, Wayne, PA; the Jubilate Deo Chorale, Haddonfield, NJ; the Angelus Chorus of Cape May Court House; and the Tabernacle Choir.
Dr. Ron Matthews is Professor of Music and Director of Music Programs at Eastern University, St. Davids, PA. His insights on church music were recently an article co-written with his brother Gary in the American Choral Directors Association national Choral Journal.
All Tabernacle services are inter-denominational. The 8:30 worship is traditional, beginning with a hymn-sing at 8:15 as the congregation arrives, led by Greg Field with organist Jeff Seals and pianist Carolyn Lothian. The 10:30 service is more upbeat and popular style with “praise & worship” music led by the Cairn University OTW Band.
Child-care for ages 3 and younger is in the Noah’s Ark nursery both morning and evening and age-appropriate Sunday School is available for children during the morning services.
Everyone is welcome—come in vacation clothes. Sunday events at the Tabernacle are by contribution only; tickets not needed. Parking is free on the Tabernacle grounds for anyone attending worship or concerts.
