By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – Author Tony Campolo is the speaker this Sunday at Ocean City Tabernacle, Aug. 21. Dr. Campolo is faculty emeritus of Eastern University; indeed, one of the schools is named for him. Author of over 30 books, sociologist, pastor, social activist, and passionate follower of Jesus. Tony has been a regular at the Tabernacle since 1976 and this spring was the community’s Easter Sunrise speaker. He preaches at the two identical worship services, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
Ron and Gary Matthews are in concert at 7 p.m. and provide the music in the morning worship services. For the concert, they will be joined by a Festival Choir consisting of about 75 singers from the Sanctuary Choir, Church of the Saviour, Wayne, PA; the Jubilate Deo Chorale, Haddonfield, NJ; the Angelus Chorus of Cape May Court House; and the Tabernacle Choir.
Dr. Ron Matthews is Professor of Music and Director of Music Programs at Eastern University, St. Davids, PA. Rev. Gary Matthews is Music Minister at Christ Memorial Church, Holland, MI. They sing, play trumpets, and use both piano and organ.
An informal song service, ranging from hymns to new praise and worship songs, precedes each service. Greg Field is songleader with Carolyn Lothian on the concert grand Steinway piano and Jeff Seals on the four-manual Allen organ. Paul Berges, drummer, joins on the upbeat tunes.
Child-care is in the Noah’s Ark nursery morning and evening and age-appropriate Sunday School is offered for children during the morning services. Everyone is welcome—come in vacation clothes.
Fri., Aug. 26, 7 p.m., and Sat., Aug. 27, 2 p.m. the Broadway show Godspell is presented by the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company and Ocean City Tabernacle featuring the OCTC Junior Company, a select group of performing arts students in grades 6th – 12th. The production is produced by a professional production team, directed and choreographed by Michael Hartman and Rachel Marlowe
Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day,” a tune that is even included in the Tabernacle hymnal. As the cast performs “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come to life.
