Cape Christian Academy’s Robotics Club, Team Purple, advanced to the final round of Wonder Workshop’s Robotics Competition, and will compete against 500 teams globally.
Madison Guthrie, Jasmine Sheik, Eli Spada, Fiona Thame and Ethan Warren completed five different story-based missions, documented by computer code submission and video. They earned full points, allowing them to compete with 500 teams in the sixth mission, which concludes March 23.
Using Dash, a STEM learning robot that responds to voices and sounds, as well as programming code, the students maneuver the bot through the programmed course. This year’s theme focuses on Cartoon Network’s show “Craig of the Creek,” with Dash making special appearances in the cartoon. Teams are assessed on programming each mission successfully and the creativity applied.
Additionally, students are required to submit journals and worksheets documenting the process. “I like working together with my friends, and am excited about this accomplishment and for the coming mission,” Jasmine Sheik said.
Fiona Thame also enjoyed the teamwork aspect, saying, “I especially enjoy adding our own creative twist.”
