NORTH WILDWOOD — Father Steven J. Vlahos, pastor of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, invites all Orthodox Christians in Cape May County to join him and his congregation in observing and celebrating the great Feast Day of the Repose/Dormition/Metastasis/Assumption of the Ever-Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother of God on Aug. 14 and 15.
This great Orthodox Church feast day specially remembers, recalls and commemorates the life, death and assumption/metastasis to heaven of the Virgin Mary. Mary is specifically honored and remembered in the Orthodox Church, the oldest Christian faith-community that dates back to Biblical Jerusalem and the Apostles as the “Theotokos” the Mother or Birth-Giver of God our Savior Jesus Christ. The Orthodox Church specially honors Mary because she was chosen by God to give birth to His son. Mary said: “My heart praises the Lord; my soul is glad because of God my savior, for He has remembered me, His lowly servant! From now on all people will call me blessed.” (Luke 1: 46-48)
On Aug. 14 the Great Vesper Service will be chanted starting at 7:00 p.m. followed by the chanting of the Encomiums to the Theotokos. On Aug. 15, the Orthros Service will start at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. and Holy Communion at 10:30 a.m. The Blessing of the Leaves Service, the Encomiums, the Holy Water Blessing of the Atlantic Ocean and the homily will follow. A reception/luncheon will be held in the community center.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
