WILDWOOD – Despite the intense rainfall Nov. 10, members of Beth Judah Temple gathered with clergy of other faiths, dignitaries and leaders of the Cape May/Wildwood community for an evening of worship and song.
Rabbi Ron Isaacs of Beth Judah spoke about how gratified he was that so many people were able to navigate the water on the streets to attend the special service to honor, remember and support the Pittsburgh, Pa. Jewish community and pay tribute to the 11 lives that were lost at the Tree of Life synagogue.
Noting that the evening also marked the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the breaking of the windows synagogues and Jewish-owned business in Germany, he quoted the book of Psalms: “How good it is that all brothers and sisters dwell together in unity.”
He also reminded the congregation that the Jewish people ushered in this past week the new Hebrew month called Kislev and that on the 25th of Kislev the festival of lights -Hanukkah- will begin.
The Maccabees in the Hanukkah story lived their life with the biblical line in their mind: “Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, says the Lord.”
He further stated, “We will not stop in our mission to build a more just, merciful, kind and peaceful world and we must continue to be our brother’s keeper.”
The service concluded with the singing of the Hebrew prayer Adon Olam (to the tune of America the Beautiful) followed by all in attendance singing America the Beautiful.
A gathering for fellowship took place in the Beth Judah social hall, where desserts were served, and people had an opportunity to converse in friendship.
