With the New Year just days away, many of us are starting to think about our New Year’s resolutions. If saving money in 2018 made your list, we can help. Here are some small changes that can make a big difference and help keep your resolution.
1. Drink water. Cutting out soda and juices isn’t just good for your health – it’s also good for your wallet. Skip the individual water bottles since they can be just as pricey as soda and juices. Purchase water by the gallon, or invest in a refillable filter.
2. Make your coffee at home. While it doesn’t hurt to get coffee at the drive through every once in a while, making your coffee at home majority of the time will definitely leave some extra cash in your pocket.
3. Bring your lunch. Pack a healthy lunch instead of spending $5 or more every day. By brown bagging it, you’ll eat better and save money while doing it.
4. Walk instead of park. If possible, park a little farther from your destination to save on parking fees. Take a walk to where you’re going and get those steps in!
5. Eat in. It’s OK to treat the family to a nice meal out here and there. Limiting eating out to once a month not only saves money, but also makes it more special.
6. Air dry clothes. Hang your clothes to dry instead of using an electric dryer. Set up a clothesline outside, get a foldable drying rack or designate a hanging area in your laundry room.
7. Skip the gym. No, we’re not suggesting that you become inactive. What we are suggesting is to avoid those pricey monthly gym fees and work out at home, or go for a walk, run or bike ride.
8. Quit smoking. Cutting out just a half a pack a day can save you almost $100 a month, and your health!
9. Have movie nights at home. Renting a movie at home is much cheaper than paying $10 or more per person at a movie theater. And we can’t forget about the overpriced popcorn, candy and soda. Pop your own popcorn and snuggle up on your comfy couch!
