Re-Elect Don Cabrera for Commission

Don Cabrera

By Sponsored

I have had the pleasure to serve you as Commissioner of Public Works, Recreation and Tourism for the past 16 years in Wildwood Crest.

I was first elected at 35 years old. I stand before you now at 52, even more experienced with new ideas and initiatives that will lead us into the future while maintaining fiscal responsibility and good balance.

EXPERIENCE WE NEED – PROVEN LEADER

  • Dune system/laws
  • Porta Potties on the beach
  • Saved Fishing Pier using grant money for ADA Access*
  • Built beach ramps/walkways with DCA grant money*
  • Developed Centennial Park using county surplus funds – FREE entertainment*
  • Nautical lights on poles working with beautification committee*
  • Borough-wide yard sale
  • Adopt a Beach program*
  • Fitness programs such as Zumba and beach pier classes
  • Bike statue at Rambler
  • Saturday Commission meetings for better accessibility to elected officials
  • Sunset Lake promenade and shore line stabilization*
  • Boardwalk connector between bike path and boardwalk*
  • Infrastructure – Rebuilt all bulk heads, street ends and side street reconstruction*
  • New Wildwood Crest brand
  • All of above with a stable budget – Started the ice cream vending on the beach, which brings over $150,000 to the borough annually equal to a penny on the tax rate, PW and REC savings and contribution to surplus, the departments that always give back.

* Projects that minimize taxes by using grants or other funding sources

VISION- WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Continued Stable Taxes – Create more miscellaneous revenue, more grants, and more use of seasonal staff, which means less pension, retirement and health care costs, and cross training to explore more privatized and shared services.

Continued Infrastructure Planning – Reconstruct our side streets, improve storm water and flood drainage, and better design ADA access curbs.

Facilities – Preventative maintenance to reduce costly emergency repairs and keep a standard we have come to enjoy.

Recreational Enhancements – More bike racks, beach foot showers, more local events such as the Crest Best 10 Miler, and bike path extension on the beach using County Open Space funding.

Environmental – More tree-lined streets and parks, and establish a green committee and use of solar panels to reduce utility costs.

Safety – Better pedestrian cross walks, more enforcement (diplomatically) of dog rules in public areas and bike traffic laws, and safety improvements to parks and playgrounds.

Beach – Create designated smoking areas, storage lockers and enhanced accessibility for seniors, and bring back the students to clean the beach program.

Wellness – Programs for borough employees and Crest residents – A healthy and happy staff and community is a better Wildwood Crest.

Senior Programs – Design a multi-purpose senior center at the old library location with recreation programs.

Open and Transparent Government – More Saturday meetings and seasonal access on Saturdays to Municipal Hall, and more notice and opportunity to speak on borough initiatives.
