‘Quilts of Valor’ Chapter to Present Quilts to CVAC Honorees

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Sept. 28, CVAC, a local Cape May County veteran advocacy group, recognized the contributions to the Cape May veteran community of Mark Kulkowitz, Owner of the Mad Batter Restaurant; Mark Taylor of the Veterans Administration; Joseph Bisbing from the American Legion; and Jacqueline Blaydes from the NJ Dept. of Labor and Workforce Development.
Nov. 30, at the CVAC meeting, the Quilts of Valor Foundation, South Jersey Chapter, will present their hand-crafted quilts to those honorees.  The foundation was founded in 2003 by Catherine Roberts, the mother of an Iraqi war veteran.  Roberts had a vision of the comfort and healing being wrapped in a quilt could provide to a veteran.  She worked to bring volunteers together to piece and quilt these special quilts.  Now a nationwide nonprofit organization, the system of volunteers has awarded over 171,000 quilts, and has given them out in all 50 states.
The South Jersey chapter of Quilts of Valor was started by two quilters in the basement of their home and has grown to over 38 women from across South Jersey.  They meet regularly to assemble and award quilts to local veterans.  In 2017 to date, the group has given out over 170 quilts throughout the region.
