Plan Meeting for Park Dedication in Crest

By Press Release

WILDWOOD CREST – The Borough of Wildwood Crest Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting Fri., Aug. 27, for the purpose of authorizing the dedication of Centennial Park, located on the east side of Ocean Avenue at Fern Road between Forget-Me-Not and Palm roads. The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the municipal courtroom at Wildwood Crest Borough Hall, 6101 Pacific Avenue.
The park, first known as Fern Road Park, was constructed in 2007. Earlier this summer, a large entertainment pavilion was built in the center of the park for the purpose of hosting live music and other entertainment and special events.
Borough commissioners plan to rename the facility to Centennial Park in recognition of Wildwood Crest’s 100th anniversary. Wildwood Crest was incorporated as a borough in April 1910.
“This has already been an exciting and successful year in Wildwood Crest as we have celebrated our first 100 years with a number of outstanding activities and events,” said Wildwood Crest commissioner and deputy mayor Joyce Gould, who also serves as chairperson for the borough’s Centennial Committee.
“We are very happy to be able to dedicate this park in recognition of our Centennial Year and we anticipate that our residents and many visitors will be able to enjoy this park and all of its amenities for many years to come. 2010 has truly been a great start to that tradition,” she added.
An official dedication ceremony for Centennial Park will take place Sat., Aug. 28, at approximately 7:15 p.m. during the borough’s Centennial Celebration Weekend event. Centennial Celebration Weekend includes a live jazz concert with the Joe Baione Group on Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and live music by the Twelve:01 band and Bandstand, as well as a special appearance by the Hegeman String Band, on Sat., Aug. 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the Centennial Celebration Weekend, the park has also hosted various live music events, including each Wednesday and Saturday evening, throughout much of the summer. The live music series, which is free and open to all ages, is funded through the Wildwood Crest Tourism Development Commission and has been very well attended at each event.
“I am extremely pleased with the live music series and the other special events Wildwood Crest has been able to offer our residents and visitors throughout this summer,” said Wildwood Crest commissioner Don Cabrera.
“The dedication of Centennial Park culminates what has been a wonderful year here in Wildwood Crest as we celebrate our Centennial.”
