Hello my name is Trinity Hamann. I am 14 years old and I’ve been involved in 4-H for nine years now. I am the secretary of the Pitchforks and Buckets 4-H Horse & Livestock Club. You may remember me as the crazy girl walking her “dog” in the Cape May Court House and Dennis Township Christmas Parades. That funny looking dog was my earless goat Rosie, she’s a La Mancha. They are born without ears, but yet they can still hear better than us!
So let me tell you about some of our members… Club President is Isabella Holly, Vice President is Kelly Hunter and our Treasurer is, my sister, Allison Hamann. Our directors are Lizzie Hunter and Cadence Golley and our fearless leader is, my dad, John “Duke” Hamann.
Over the past year, our club has done so many amazing things for the community. We have definitely given back! We have done multiple trash clean ups, including places like Route 83, Dennisville Road, Fidler Road and the 4-H fairgrounds. Our club has visited some people who need a smile once in a while, like the residents at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. We brought them some Christmas joy with the company of our furry little friends including goats, rabbits and even some little bantam chickens.
Last fall, our 4-H Livestock program set up our first ever 4-H Corn Maze at Learnher’s Farm on Route 47 South. It was a huge success thanks to volunteers and helpers who came out to help weekends in October (special shouts to my birthday crew). This year our club also traveled to several rabbit shows throughout the tristate area including the annual PA State Rabbit Breeders show.
This year, our club hosted two American Rabbit Breeders Association sanctioned rabbit and cavy shows. On March 18, we held a “March Madness” triple specialty and youth show. We had a huge turnout with close to 1,000 rabbits and cavies shown! On the weekend of May 21 and 22, we held our 3rd annual Cape Rabbit & Cavy Show. Saturday, May 21 featured the Harlequin National show. We had people travel from all over the country to come and show their Harlequin rabbits at our 4-H fairgrounds. On Sunday, May 22, we had a huge turnout with over 2,500 rabbits and cavies! The show was a huge success and we had help from all of our club members and their parents. We also owe a big thank you to everyone who donated to our show.
Finally, if you like fresh pork or lamb, I encourage you to come out to the Cape May County 4-H Fair on Thursday, July 21, 6:30 p.m. for our Annual 4-H Market Hog and Lamb Sale. The Pitchforks and Buckets members have five hogs for you and I have a lamb. Each year, we raise these animals to be auctioned at fair and take great pride in doing so. Hope to see everyone this year at the 4-H fair!
