The Distinguished Citizen Award, a.k.a. the “Good Scout” Award is presented to community leaders who exemplify in their daily lives the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Law & Oath. The recipients are chosen for their outstanding service as evidenced by the interest and leadership they have provided to many worthwhile organizations as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.
John Lynch received the “Whitney M Young Jr. Service Award.” The purpose of the award is to recognize an adult individual in the development and implementation of scouting opportunities for youth from rural areas or low-income urban backgrounds. This was a fulfillment of Dr. Young’s dream of justice and equality for all.
On Oct. 26, Garden State Boy Scout Council honored four outstanding citizens. The 2015 Distinguished Citizens honorees were Dave Beyel, Alan Gould and Joyce Gould. John Lynch was honored with the “Whitney Young Award.” There were many businesses involved in the fundraiser and many tables purchased. For the boy scouts, the event was able to raise $70,000 which was $15,000 over last year’s event.
