AVALON – Lydia Borek addressed the crowd at the 25th and final Brendan Borek High Tides Surf Memorial Aug. 1 in Avalon at 30th Street beach. She announced a $200,000 endowment fund would be given to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to perpetuate the work of the organization to assist pediatric cancer patients and their families. Following her address, and reading of names of those helped through the years, the last Circle of Friends of surfers formed offshore, joined hands and tossed a wreath on the water.
