The OC Bowl is the “Super Bowl” and culmination of an 8-week season that started March 5. The tournament includes a free NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Contest Prep starting at 11 a.m. The 5-6 Year Old Championship will be held at Noon. 2 playoff rounds begin at 1 p.m. for the 10-12 year old bracket, followed by a playoff between the 7-9 year olds and final playoff round for the 10-12 year olds at 2 p.m. The 7-9 year old bracket championship will be held at 3 p.m., followed by the 10-12 year old championship at 4 p.m. Guest speakers throughout the tournament will include Ocean City High School Head Football Coach, Kevin Smith, along with other surprise guest appearances.
OC NFL Flag Football teams are grouped and compete by age; with 5-6 year olds, 7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds. The league consists of ten co-ed 10-player teams with all levels of experience. All participants in OC NFL Flag received NFL team-branded jerseys, NFL flag football belts, USA Football Player Membership and player’s insurance coverage. Players come from many different school districts including Cape May Court House, Dennis Township, Upper Township, Ocean City, Somers Point, Brigantine, Galloway, Mays Landing, Egg Harbor Township and more. Teams include the Raiders, Chiefs, Colts, Lions, Giants, Eagles, Chargers, Steelers, Seahawks and Dolphins.
The NFL Pass, Punt & Kick Contest Prep is free and open to the public for boys and girls age 6-15. This event will allow participants to become familiar with the NFL’s PPK rules and scoring procedure. Proper mechanics for all events will be demonstrated by current Ocean City High School Varsity football players and each entrant will have the opportunity to practice each event as well as be scored as they would for an actual NFL PPK Local Competition.
Participants may register and compete in only ONE NFL Local Competition so this is an amazing opportunity to have an accurate and informative run-through for those serious about competing and possibly qualifying to advance to Sectionals, Team Championships and even the National Finals, which were held at the NFL Pro Bowl this year. All participants (that are not active members of OC NFL Flag Football League or Youth Gridiron Academy) must have a parent or guardian sign an entry form/release of liability upon arrival, wear soft-sole gym shoes and use YGA’s equipment (such as tees and footballs) to participate.
Ocean City NFL Flag Football League is a subsidiary of Youth Gridiron Academy which is an affiliate of NFL FLAG, powered by USA Football and is also part of NFL PLAY 60, the league’s youth health and fitness campaign. The program promotes physical fitness by getting kids active for 60 minutes a day.
Youth Gridiron Academy is a year round sports school that specializes in football skills enhancement to improve physical fitness, skills enhancement, mental toughness, speed/agility, quickness, nutrition, hand-eye coordination and leadership ability. YGA is non-contact football and general fitness instruction; the fundamentals of all positions are taught in addition to life skills such as teamwork, good sportsmanship and the importance of education. Sessions and camps are held both outdoors and indoors with a strong emphasis always on creating a fun and motivating environment for athletes to enhance personal performance and improve their game.
