WOOD, JAMES G., 98, formerly of Stone Harbor, died peacefully at the Evergreens Retirement Community, Moorestown, NJ on June 14, 2010. With him were daughters, Linda Picanza of Stone Harbor, NJ and Nancy Vogt of West Chester, PA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie. Jim was a 1930 graduate of Wildwood High School. He was employed by the local Woolworth store and eventually managed several of their larger Philadelphia stores. He joined the Navy in 1942 and became a Naval Officer using his work experience to place contracts for the DC Navy Supply Depot. In 1949, he left Woolworth Company to open Woods 5&10 stores in Stone Harbor and Avalon, presently Hoys 5&10 stores. Jim lived with his wife, Marie, and family in Stone Harbor and was a Councilman for 14yrs and Mayor from 1975 to 1981. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and swimming. His family includes five grandchildren: Lisa Burkhead, Jeannette Sabatini, Jimmy Picanza, Rebecca Bondi, and Amy Vogt; eight great-grandchildren and sons-in-law, James Picanza and Gary Vogt. A Memorial Service will be held on June 29 at 11:00am in the Chapel at the Evergreens, 309 Bridgeboro Rd, Moorestown, NJ 08247.
