WHITE, EDWARD G., 92, of Villas passed away, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Cape Regional Medical Center. He is the son of the late Charles A. White and the late Matilda (Abraham) White. Ed served his country in the US Navy during WW II in the Pacific as a machinist on the Columbia CL-56. The USS Columbia survived 3 kamikaze attacks in two days, killing and wounding many men. His crew’s accomplishments in saving their ship and carrying out their mission without interruption were recognized with the Navy Unit Commendation for this operation. Ed was employed by Matlack Trucking in the Philadelphia area and after retiring was a member of the VFW Post 5343, Villas, NJ serving as steward for many years. Ed is survived by his wife Betty Ann Rich-White; and a daughter Phyllis White of Naples, FL and son, Edward (Wendy)White of Skippack, PA; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces Debbie Fitzmaurice, Janice (Ed) MacDonald, Marie (Tom) Hearty and several great-nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., North Cape May, NJ where relatives and friends will be received after 10 AM. Interment will follow at Cape May Co. Veterans Cemetery, 127 Crest Haven Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ.
