VON AHNEN, GLORIA, 90, of South Seaville, NJ passed away peacefully on September 26, 2013 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA. Ms. Von Ahnen was born May 19, 1923 in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of the late Lawrence C. Zampol and Elizabeth (Altmansburger) Zampol. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Thomas Von Ahnen and a sister Pauline Walker. She is survived by her children Arthur Von Ahnen, Cecelia Wade, Victoria Jackson, Christine Von Ahnen, and Joyce Herrington; nephews Frank Walker and Joseph Walker, niece Paula Hopp; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Ms. Von Ahnen was a beloved teacher in Sea Isle City for many years. Her compassion and love of teaching left an indelible mark on generations of students, whom she was thrilled to stay in touch with long after they had graduated. Her strong belief in the importance of education continued after her retirement in the volunteer work she did for Literacy Volunteers Association. A graduate of Immaculata University in Philadelphia and Glassboro State College in NJ, she also proudly served her country as a WAVE in the United States Navy during WWII. Ms. Von Ahnen was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Goshen, NJ, the NJ Education Association, and the Good Neighbors Club in South Seaville, NJ. A viewing will take place on Thursday, October 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Route 47, Goshen, NJ, where a viewing will begin at 10:00 am.
