VERYCKEN, EDWARD J., age 76, of Cape May Court House, NJ passed away at home on November 16, 2016, surrounded by family and friends from complications due to Parkinsons. Ed was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Hoboken, NJ until moving to Cape May County in 1971. Ed is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Keith; his daughters, Kim Brooks and Diane Hornbeck; his five grandchildren: Richard Riehl, James Hornbeck, Conor Hornbeck, Megan Verycken, Kyle Verycken and his great grandson, RJ Riehl; his brothers: Joseph and Richard and his sisters: Rosemarie Holmes, Ruby Bassin, Kathy Seijo and Vicki Verycken. Ed found his true calling in Martial Arts at the age of 17 when he began his training in USA GOJU Karate under the founder of the System, Peter Urban and was his first student. Ed continued his training throughout his entire life and was eventually promoted to the highest Master Rank of 10th Dan and also was the National Leader of the System after the passing of the founder. Ed along with Anthony Solis, started the self-defense refresher course in 1978 for the County Police at the Cape May County Police Academy. Ed was a policeman for the City of Wildwood for 13 years; an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church; a member of the National Guard for 18 years and owner and operator of E V Landscaping until retirement due to health issues. Ed was an inspiration to those who had the good fortune of knowing him. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and will always be remembered for his love of God and family. His Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, November 22, 1916, at 11 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 Mechanic St., Cape May Court House, NJ where visitation will be 10 to 10:50 am.
