TWEED, HARRY J., 65, was a life-long resident of Cape May County, moving to Cape May at the age of seven months, to Rio Grande in 1959, and later to Middle Township. He was a graduate of Middle Township High School’s “Class of 69” and was a member of the reunion committee, helping to plan all class reunions. After graduation, Harry entered the United States Navy. Upon completing boot camp he went on to Hospital Corpsman School in Great Lakes, IL. After graduation he was stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital where hundreds of casualties from the Vietnam War were being sent. The hospital staff earned the Meritorious Unit Citation for excellence of care given to patients while Harry was stationed there. In 1972 Harry was sent to Camp Lejeune, NC to the Fleet Marine Forces Combat Training School to serve with the United States Marine Corps. Upon graduation he was stationed with the 1st Marine Division, 1st Medical Battalion in Camp Pendleton, CA where he remained until 1974 when he was discharged. Harry worked as a bartender for many years at the Rio Grande Café, Urie’s, and the Herald’s Inn. He then worked as a Senior Communications Officer for the Wildwood Police/Fire Departments for 26 years, retiring in 2010. In addition to his work, Harry was a life member and past chief of the Rio Grande Rescue Squad, a past member of the Rio Grande Fire Department, a life member and past chief of the Cape May County Communications Van, and a member of the County Fireman’s Aid Association. He was also the past 2nd Vice Commander of the Cape May County American Legion Executive Board, a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and member of Chapter #955, Wildwood, a life member of the Marine Corps League and member of the L/CPL George Dramis Detachment, CMCH, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and member of Chapter #44, Del Haven, a life member of the Army/Navy Union and member of Garrison #52, National Park. In addition he was a member of the Villas Fishing Club and the NJ Retired Policeman and Fireman Association, Inc. Harry also served as Commander of American Legion Post #184 in Wildwood for 13 years. Harry is survived by his wife Kathy (Scobey), his daughter Kimberly and her husband Randy Fickett, his son Robert and wife Natalie (Fay), his daughter Siubhan and her fiancé Kevin Hebron. As well as his granddaughter August Jane Hebron and another grandchild that is due this summer. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews; Christopher and Walter Belles, Jaime Fox, and Todd VonLoh, as well as great nieces and nephews: Malia, Karsyn, and Walter Belles, Emily VonLoh and Jaelynn Fox. Services for Harry will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
