TAMACCIO, ERMA KATHLEEN (nee Hurst), 93, of Cape May passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 26, 2013 in the comfort of her daughters home. Erma was born on July 20, 1920 in Phila., PA to the late Thomas and Emma Hurst. She graduated from Frankford High School in 1939 where she was a member of the Senior 12 and Honor Society. Shortly thereafter she worked for nine years for Philadelphia Gas Works as a reporter for the Company Magazine and also in the accounting department. In 1948 she married Ralph A. Tamaccio and together they went to the Princeton Seminary where Ralph studied for the ministry and Erma worked for various companies (Van DeVenter News Analysis, Columbus Box Chois and the Princeton Film Center). She and her husband served and held many positions in churches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri and most recently served in the Cape May Presbyterian Church from 1966-78. While in Cape May, Erma enjoyed working for the Cape May Star and Wave, J. McCray Mayflower Shop, and the Richard Teitelman School where she was the secretary to the principal. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, volunteering at the hospital, teaching Sunday School, and helping children. Erma was known for sending cards and remembering family and friends at special events in their lives through the written word. A devoted wife, she enjoyed a marriage of 55 years to her husband, the late Rev. Ralph A. Tamaccio who passed away in 2003. She is also predeceased by her sister, Harriet MacMorland (2009). Most precious to her are her children who will dearly miss her. Her family includes her son, Thomas C. (and Patricia) Tamaccio of Herndon, VA, and her daughter, Nancy S. (and Robert) Tompkins of W. Cape May; five grandchildren, Gabriel, Erin, Michael, Claire and Ross; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday (Dec. 30th) at 12 noon in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May where there will be a viewing prior to the service from 11AM 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Cold Spring Cem., Lower Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May, NJ 08204.
