SONNER, ROBERTA MAGUIRE

SONNER, ROBERTA MAGUIRE “BOBBIE” passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 following a short and courageous fight with cancer. She was so brave. Her spirit sailed out the window of her little beach house, the fresh shore air on her face and her sons by her side. She was 84 years young. Born in Ardmore, PA on December 16, 1927 to Roberta and Felix Maguire, attended Bryn Mawr College, married Kenneth White Sonner in 1948 and raised four children. Bobbie was an equestrian, a homemaker, a student, an animal lover, a book-reader, an amazing real estate agent, a letter-writer, a sun-worshipper, a pancake-maker, a tireless volunteer and the best friend anyone could have. She taught us how to live at the beach. Bobbie touched so many lives with her elegance, loyalty, grace and wisdom. First-born son Chris has welcomed her into heaven. Daughter Robin (husband Patrick McHugh), son Tony, son David (wife Susan), granddaughter Jenna Tico and Nick-the-sheltie are deeply missing her. There was a blessed reunion visit from her brother Bill Maguire, (wife Barbara), niece Linda and nephews Bill and Tim. Bobbie’s California family of friends will keep her memory in their hearts forever. The Main Line family and Cape May County friends will cherish lasting and loving memories of an extraordinary woman. Bobbie kept a book of all the places she called home. There are 33 addresses listed, the last one dated January 1, 2012 with a note reading “Here I go again!” as she circled around to the place where she truly always left her heart: beside the bay in Avalon. She is home again. She is forever deeply loved. There will be a private family memorial at St. Denis Cemetery in Havertown. A celebration of the life Bobbie lived will be held later this spring down The Shore in Avalon.
