Joan A. Smith, 76, of Cape May Beach, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 surrounded by family after battling an extended illness. Born in Huntingdon Valley, PA to the late Irvin and Bertha Horn Summers, she raised her family in Cape May County for over 30 years. She worked as a nurse’s clerk at Maud Abrams School.A woman of strong faith, Joan was a member of The Lighthouse Church, where she was active in WOW, women’s Bible study. She enjoyed shopping, dining out, and being surrounded by people but it was her church and family that brought her the most enjoyment.Joan is survived by her children, Robert T. (Crystal) Smith, Kimberly L. Smith-Gipple (James Rutherford), and Andrew R. (Becky) Smith; her grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Madison Gipple, Colin Smith, Lily Smith, Tim Gipple, Joe Simmerman, Marisa Simmerman, Emeri Watkins, and Sullivan Watkins; and her great grandson, Cooper Gipple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Smith.Memorial service was held on Monday, January 6, 2020.
