SMITH, IRENE T., age 91, of Forked River died on Wednesday February 19th, 2014 at Crest Haven Nursing Home, Cape May Court House. Born in Newark in 1922 and formerly of Kenilworth she was a summer resident of Lacey Township from 1969 until moving there permanently in 1985. Mrs. Smith retired as a Key Punch Operator with National Health Laboratories of Cranford. Irene was a communicant of St. Pius, she loved to sing and had been a member of their choir, and was a past member of the Rosary Society. Mrs. Smith volunteered her time working with Deborah Hospital’s Bayville Chapter 0034, and helping to run BINGO at both the Knights of Columbus and St. Pius Church. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council #6522 in Forked River. Irene was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Jack in 2007. Surviving are her two daughters Eileen A. Kulpa of Barnegat and Patricia F. O’Connor and her husband Brian of Cape May, grandchildren Robert Kulpa, Sara Galica, Alyssa Shaeffer and her husband Cory, Kaitlyn Galica and Faith Richards and her husband Wayne, great-grandchildren Matthew Kulpa, Ryan Kulpa, Destin Gomes, Brianna Gomes and Joanna Lewis along with her sister Mary C. Clark of Nutley. A Viewing will be held on Monday, February 24th, 2014 from 11:00am until Noon at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Route 9, Forked River, NJ 08731. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Monday at 12:15 pm from St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Forked River. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
