SHEER, MORRIS H., 101 years old, of Stone Harbor, New Jersey, died Saturday, January 11, 2014. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he attended West Philadelphia High School, University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences (class of 1933) and Penn Law School (1936). During summers in college, he was a lifeguard on the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol, and was recognized as a special guest at its 100th anniversary in 2012. He began his career as a practicing attorney in Philadelphia with his preceptor, Albert W. Sanson. During WWII he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Department of Justice, working in counter-espionage in New York City. Returning to private practice in Philadelphia in 1946, he was a civil attorney in several firms well into his 80s, most notably with Erskine, Barbieri, and Sheer and with Sheer and Mazzocone. Beginning in 1956, Morris was also a member of the Narberth Borough Council, including as Vice President in 1970-71, and then served as Borough Solicitor until 1994. Morris was a member of the Union League of Philadelphia for over 60 years. He also continued active in his college fraternity, Theta XI, and was a Lifetime Member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (the Ex-FBI) for over 65 years. He was a proprietary member of the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor, serving as longtime chairman of the board. He enjoyed boating and fishing in South Jersey waters with family and friends, especially deep-sea marlin tournaments. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne E. (nee Rubencame) and survived by his son Dennis (Bonnie Harrison) of Wilmington, DE; and grandson Michael H. (Sonia Duprez) and great grandchildren Belen May and Ines Mariana of Philadelphia.
