RUTHERFORD JR., JOHN ELMER, 71, of Burleigh, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Court House Convalescent Center. Born in North Wildwood to the late John Elmer and Shirley E. (Campbell) Rutherford, Sr., he was a lifetime resident of this area. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and earned an engineering degree from Vanderbilt University. He enjoyed the Cape May beaches and seashells and painted Cape May area seascapes. A former teacher at Maud Abrams Elementary School, he also spent a lot of time writing. He was known as the Bicycle Man in Cape May. John is survived by his children, Kimberly Whitehorn, Alison Rutherford, and Kenneth Rutherford; his sisters and brother, Caroline Mayes, Lawrence Rutherford, and Linda Sutton; his grandsons, Cory and Cody; and his aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Interment will be private. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
