RIESER, MARY T., 89

RIESER, MARY T., 89, of Avalon, NJ, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at The Shores in Ocean City. She was born July 15, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William and Bridget Millar and was the oldest of their six children. Mary was a graduate of Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia.
On June 19, 1954 she married the love of her life Edward J. Rieser. In 1958 she and her husband moved to Avalon to help her father start Avalon Home Center which later became Avalon Carpet and Tile. Soon after they moved to Sea Isle City and opened a bakery and Rieser Flooring, moving back to Avalon in 1972. Mary loved to swim in her pool and row on her erg. She loved her friends, her family, her pets, the movie Pretty Woman and selling flooring (not in that particular order). There are likely only a few homes in South Jersey that were not touched by her design style as she helped many of us select just the right tile and flooring to make our houses a home. She had a passion for fashion and always left the house “dressed to impress”. Mary enjoyed going to the senior center and was actively involved in supporting local efforts in the rescue of cats.
Mary is survived by her sister Margaret (William) Zeiss of Cape May Court House; her son James (Christine) Rieser of Petersburg, NJ; daughter Teresa (Robert) Tiller of Los Angeles, CA; one grandchild Shane; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Rieser and her brothers William, Robert, Thomas and John Millar.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, Sacred Heart Church (formerly Maris Stella Chapel), 25th Street and First Avenue, Avalon, NJ followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Ocean City, P.O. Box 1254, Ocean City, NJ 08226 or the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Condolences at
