RAMBO, WAYNE R., Sr., 64, of Cape May passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Wayne grew up in West Cape May and was a lifelong resident of the Cape May area. As a young man, he worked for the Sun Oil Company as a merchant marine before serving in the United States Army where he proudly fought for our freedom in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He worked for the City of Cape May for several years before retiring. Wayne was an active member of the VFW Peterson-Little Post 386, Cape May; a member of the American Legion, Cape May and the D.A.V., Del Haven. He had a knack for restoring furniture; enjoyed collecting coins; appreciated music and was committed to veteran’s causes. He also enjoyed telling jokes and making people smile. He is predeceased by his former wife, Sandra and his three brothers, Thomas, Joseph, and Craig. Wayne will be missed by his family which includes his children, Wayne Rambo, Jr. (and Nicole), Jonathan Rambo (and Jenna) and Lori Erskine (and Dana); four brothers, Dennis (and Dolores), Harry (and Terry), Norman (and Martha) and Billy Rambo; one sister, Marcie Iverson; seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Zachary, Shae, Kyle, Tyler, Jacob, and Jonathan; three great grandsons, Nolan, Caleb and Blake. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 24 at 11AM in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May where there will be a viewing from 9AM – 11AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Cold Spring Cem., Lower Twp.
