QUINN, CHARLES EDWARD, 90

QUINN, CHARLES EDWARD, 90 of Wildwood, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017. Charles was born and raised in West Kensington, Philadelphia, Pa., Son of Charles Aloysius and Jean Dykes Quinn. At age 17, He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific and the Philippines from 1943 – 1945. He received a purple heart for wounds suffered in battle. After the war, he moved to Wildwood and married Helen Rile. Together, they raised five children. He served his community as a Wildwood Police Officer for 30 years from 1949 to 1979, rising through the ranks, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of numerous organizations, including Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, Emerald Society, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Knights of Columbus. He was a great husband and father to his family. A caring, giving and faithful person to friends and all who knew him. Charlie was a proud member of the Police & Fire Irish Pipe Brigade, performing as a tenor drummer. He enjoyed singing Irish songs and listening to his collection of Irish tunes and music. In his later years, he loved spending time with his “Second Family” at the Wildwood American Legion. Post 184, where he served as Post Chaplain. He was preceded in death by his Brother: William Quinn, Wife: Helen, Sons: Thomas Quinn and Michael Quinn, Daughters: Helen Marie Richardson and Kathleen Quinn, Grandsons: Brian Richardson and Daniel Quinn, Granddaughter: Colleen Taylor. He survived by his Son, Charles Quinn, of Wildwood, NJ. Grand Children: Kevin Quinn(Carli),Erma, NJ., William Quinn(Chrissy), Jackson, NJ., Rebeca Stevens(Jamie) Atlantic, Va., Joseph Quinn, Albuquerque ,NM., Kate Quinn- Aguilar(Lefty)Villas, NJ., Michelle Richardson, Sarasota Fla., Sean Richardson, Cape Coral, Fla., numerous cousins, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services to be held Tuesday, June 20th at St. Ann Church, Glenwood & Atlantic Ave, Wildwood,NJ., Visitation 9am to 10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Procession and Internment at Cold Spring Cemetery located at 780 Seashore Rd, North Cape May, NJ. Family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wildwood American Legion, Post 184, 4200 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, NJ 08260. Funeral arrangements and services handled by Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Ave, North Wildwood, NJ 08260.
